New website

December 31, 2008

I’m a day early – go figure! The new website is up and running, and I’m really excited about it. There are bigger photos, it’s a bit sleeker and cleaner, and best of all, there are more text pages to include more info for potential clients. :)

Happy Birthday, Aidan!!!

December 28, 2008

I simply can’t believe my little guy is 2 today! He’s getting so big and is doing so many amazing things. I promise a great big update with photos and everything, but right now, this Mama is spent! The craziness of the holidays and his birthday have exhausted me, and I’m going to bed early. More tomorrow. :) Thanks for checking in.

Merry Christmas!

December 26, 2008

We were really late with the Christmas cards this year, and for that I completely apologize. I had such high hopes of having a fabulous family shoot with the 3 of us back in October, but I never made it happen. Things have been so nuts. And just the month of December has been filled with sickness. Hopefully that will end with 2009. I’m done visiting people in the hospital, please! (UnlessĀ  you’re having a baby! That I wecome!) Here’s our card that hopefully everyone got on time! (Though that’s probably not the case.)

Success!

December 23, 2008

Aidan’s first trip to sit on Santa’s lap was a total success! I was a tad bit worried he wouldn’t do it, but he did! :) And thanks to my mom, he had a fabulous little red sweater from Gymboree for his cheesy mall picture. (They don’t allow professional cameras. Grrrr.) Every day, my son amazes me. When he went to sit on Santa’s lap, he asked Aidan what he wanted for Christmas, and he told him, “A new, new truck!” It was hysterical. Just so adorable that I could eat him up! And what a great Santa they had! He was very fragile looking, I actually thought Aidan might hurt him. The child is so heavy. He was a little worried at first, but Santa started talking to him quietly, and Aidan was completely fine. I love Christmas. It’s amazing to see it through my son’s eyes. And in case you’re wondering, we didn’t make it to see Santa last year because Dan couldn’t go with us because he was deployed. I didn’t want him to miss such a great moment, and he didn’t have to. :) I’m so thankful that the 3 of us are together now.

Where has the time gone?

December 23, 2008

Seriously, I have no idea. It feels like I blinked and December is almost gone. We’ve hardly even had time to really get in the Christmas spirit this year! I think mostly because of Dan being sick and in the hospital, and then we both had really bad colds for weeks. I’m really excited to see Aidan’s reaction to Christmas this year though. He’s going to be so excited to open gifts and do all the Christmas things. We’re taking him to see Santa today. I’m really not sure how he’ll react. He may be excited, but I can also see him crying – as many kids do. We’ll just have to wait and see.

And…I can’t believe my baby is going to be 2 on Sunday. It’s crazy. Anybody who knows me well knows I have just the most awful memory, but I remember the day our little boy came into the world like it was yesterday. He’s growing up way too fast! Um, we were at the doctor’s office on Friday because he dislocated his poor little elbow, and Aidan weighed in at 37 pounds! Eeeeek! No wonder it’s so hard to carry him up all those stairs. He’s sturdy, though, not chunky at all really.

So between getting ready for Christmas and Aidan’s 2nd birthday, things are just nuts around here. That’s why I haven’t been a great blogger. But hopefully tomorrow I’ll have some Aidan and Santa pics for you!

There’s a soup that I tried out back in October that I just love, so I decided I should share it with my blog stalkers. Normally, I’m not much of a soup girl, but this is hearty, has the right amount of spice, and is just plain yummy! It’s perfect for a cold winter night, too. Seriously, you should make it. Everyone I make it for LOVES it. It’s super easy, too.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed chicken broth
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 cup whole corn kernels, cooked
  • 1 cup white hominy
  • 1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chile peppers
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 boneless chicken breast halves, cooked and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • crushed tortilla chips
  • sliced avocado
  • shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • chopped green onions

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a medium stock pot, heat oil over medium heat. Saute onion and garlic in oil until soft. Stir in chili powder, oregano, tomatoes, broth, and water. Bring to a boil, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Stir in corn, hominy, chiles, beans, cilantro, and chicken. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Ladle soup into individual serving bowls, and top with crushed tortilla chips, avocado slices, cheese, and chopped green onion.

New new bed

December 16, 2008

That’s what Aidan calls his new toddler bed. (Not just one “new” – there must be 2! And he loves to jump in it. Too bad he doesn’t really like to sleep in it, but we’re working on that. I snapped a few shots a couple of nights ago after bathtime because I’ve been owing them to my mother-in-law, Heleena, for a billion years. You see, she bought Aidan his beloved “Bar Bar” doll. (Sorry, I know you all thought we were done with the Barney posts, right?) Now he esentially sleeps with a zoo in his bed. He has Ben, the golden retriever that resembles John and Heleena’s dog, “Cam Cam” the camel his aunt Rachel brought him all the way from Israel, he has “Hor” which Dan and I bought him on a trip to Grant’s Farm, and “Pan Pan” a panda bear that aunt Rachel gave him when he was itty bitty. Needless to say, there’s not much room for a giant Aidan! But he will not go to bed unless every.single.one of his friends is in his bed! And sometimes in the morning, Aidan and his crew join mommy and daddy in their bed, too. I’m thinking we need a king size bed!

We’ve been dealing with some NASTY weather here in Missouri. The roads are slushy and sometimes icy. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had to deal with weather like this. But I must say it’s a nice change from the disgustingly hot weather of Texas. And Aidan loves to play in the snow, so that’s a nice bonus. Tonight, Dan and I ventured out with Aidan and our nephew, Brody, who is about 16 months old. My sister, Michelle, has been in the hospital after discovering a huge blood clot that ran the entire length of her leg. It’s been a very, very scary time, but she is doing much better, and after nearly a week in the hospital, was released tonight. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She could really use them. Thanks.

Tis the season…

For baking cookies! This was Aidan’s first time helping mom make cookies, and he’s such a pro. Already adding his own spices to the mix! ;)

Kendall Elizabeth!

December 13, 2008

She has a name – and a beautiful one at that. And I know this is her third post, but you can never get enough newborn pics. Am I right? I think so anyway…And I’m pretty sure Miss Kendall will be making many more appearances on this blog.

I love the look on his face. Seriously. Does it get any better than that? That is love.

Her feet are sooo itty bitty. I don’t think Aidan EVER had feet that tiny.

And the winner is…..

Newborn sweetness

December 10, 2008

Good morning, beautiful…

December 10, 2008

I had the huge honor of photographing Baby Orf this morning. Yesterday at her doctor appointment, Janine’s doctor told her they were going to enduce her because of her high blood pressure. She doesn’t yet have a name, but let me tell you she’s a gorgeous baby! She was born at 9:24 and weighed 6 lbs 1 oz. She was about 3 weeks early, I believe. I didn’t go in the room until about an hour or more after she was born, but the entire experience just took me back to when Aidan was born – since they all have the same little cap and blanket and adorably goopy eyes. Babies are such a joy – such a miracle. My husband put it perfectly when I told him all the details: “Them having a baby made me really happy. What a wonderful day.” Indeed it is…I was there when she had her first bath and when they made her footprints. I got to snuggle her warm, little peanut of a body…But for now, I know someone is anxiously awaiting these pictures, so I’ll stop babbling for now.
Without further ado, here is the beautiful baby girl Orf. (Can’t wait to find out what they name her! ) More later tonight!

Baby on the way!!!!

December 9, 2008

No not me, you crazy people. My friend Janine is in the hospital being induced as I write this post. Baby Orf could be arriving in just a few hours, and I’m going to be heading to the hospital to shoot some photos of the brand new baby. I can’t wait to find out what she’s having and what they name the baby! Eeeeeeekkkk! I’ll post at least one sometime tomorrow. I hope she has an easy birth!

It’s canvas time!

December 8, 2008

I’m so excited it’s here! It feels like I’ve been waiting forever, when in reality, it was less than a week. Super fast! This is my very first canvas, and I must say, it definitely will not be my last. They’re expensive but absolutely gorgeous! I love that I got to try out a new product with my handsome son, Aidan. It’s a 20×30 canvas, and I have lots of shots from every angle just so you can really appreciate all the details.

Here’s what the original image looked like.

Full shot looking into the dining room from the living room.

This is a closeup of the wrapped edges. There’s a little bit of a scuff mark on it, but that was from me hanging it up before I actually took the pictures of it. Should have done that BEFORE hanging, right?!

The texture of the canvas…

Here’s the hardware that was a small extra charge, but it makes it super easy to hang!

The subject with the canvas. He’s looking a little scruffy here because he had just woken up from his nap! Notice the crazy hair. Oh, and please excuse the really terrible light in our living room.

And here it is looking lovely on our wall. I completely, totally love it. I can’t wait to buy more. :) Don’t tell Dan.

With Janine’s maternity shoot slideshow! Here’s the link: www.nicolewelchphotography.com/slideshows/BabyOrf. Maybe someday I’ll learn how to embed the slideshows in my blog. But for now, just click the link. :)
