I purchased my first camera – a film camera (gasp!) – when I was in high school. I loved photographing family members, friends and nature. My camera went with me everywhere! When it was time to head off to college, I took my love of photography and decided to turn it into a career. I majored in Photojournalism at the University of Missouri – Columbia. Not long after graduation, I decided I wanted to use my photography to make an impact on the world, so I joined the Army, where I used my first digital camera. I served as a photographer on a newspaper staff for more than 5 years, and I also served as a photographer during a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq.
After my Army contract was complete in 2008, I knew wedding photography would be the next step in my career. So we moved back home to St. Louis, MO, and now I’m living my dream as a St. Louis wedding photographer. I am SO lucky to be doing what I do! There is no better job than that of a photographer, and I truly love shooting weddings. After the amazing experience of my own wedding, I knew I wanted to help preserve those memories for others through my photography. I am truly honored to be a part of the best day of so many couples’ lives.
My background in photojournalism makes it possible to catch those fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime moments that I hope you will treasure for years to come. My style is primarily photojournalistic, and if that is how you envision your wedding photographs, please use the contact form or give me a call so we can grab a cup of coffee and discuss all the details.
On the more personal side, I’m a lover of caramel lattes, pedicures, the smell of honeysuckle, baby chub, running outdoors, all Sheryl Crow songs, going to the farmer’s market on Saturday mornings, and pugs. And everyone calls me Nikki – well, except my grandparents!
Thanks for checking out the blog.

I found you on the Flikr group “Starting a Wedding Photography Business”. I have recently started my own photography business. I love your style and would love to ask you some technical questions if you wouldn’t mind. Thanks, Wendy
Hi Wendy! Sure – just send an email to nikkiwelch@mac.com and I’ll do my best to answer your questions!
Thanks.
Are you available for a May 22, 2010 wedding?
I was wondering what your prices are. You do some great work!
Steve, I just found your blog on technorati. Really great work. I rellay enjoy your style and look forward to following your blog. I am still pretty new to wedding photography and live in a relatively small city in Texas. I can not even imagine having the opportunity to shoot a wedding or anything for that matter with New York city as a backdrop. Very cool! Congrats on getting published.
