Emily + Tyler: Engagement Session (St. Louis wedding photographer)

This post is LONG overdue, but I’ve been having internet problems. Big problems. (Anybody know of a good internet provider in St. Charles? I am SO not a fan of AT&T’s DSL.) Anywho, I had SO much fun with Emily and Tyler during their engagement session a couple weeks ago. They knew they wanted an urban environment (which I’m all about!), since their wedding is at a beautiful winery in Illinois. They wanted something different, so we headed out to Washington Ave. in downtown St. Louis and just walked up and down the streets and back into the alleys, finding places that looked fun and searching for the light. I think we found some of both!

Thanks again, Emily + Tyler. I can’t wait to shoot your wedding next year!

Elaina: Bridal Portrait Session (St. Louis wedding photography)

When Elaina first sent me an email saying she wanted to do her bridal shoot in the church where she and John were getting married, I was a little nervous. Traditional portraits aren’t my thing. Not that I don’t appreciate them, they’re just not a strength. I like to shoot outside. Give me a field. Give me a busy city street. But in a church? I even wrote her back saying, “Are you sure you want to do this in a church?” Yes. She did. It was a church her grandparents have attended for many, many years. I believe her grandfather even helped build the church. Well, when I heard that, I knew she was right. We had to shoot there. This was going to be a good test for me and a chance to stretch my abilities, but I was up for the challenge. And oh my, I’m SO glad she didn’t let me talk her out of it. The church is way out in the country – about an hour’s drive for me. (A beautiful drive, though!) There was a ton of natural light in the church, and I have to say, it was a bit ethereal. I really loved shooting there for the bridal session…And I really can’t wait to show you their wedding. But first thing’s first…Here’s Elaina, and she was a true dream to have in front of my camera.

We had SO much fun with her veil…And the light. It was spectacular

I couldn’t decide if I liked the color or black and white. What do you guys think?!

Emily + Lucas: Wedding (St. Louis wedding photography)

PART I

(I have so many I want to share, so this is just going to be the first blog post.)

When I pulled up to Emily’s parents’ house, I grabbed my gear and ran through the pouring rain – expecting to find a sad bride. Who wants rain on their wedding day? I asked the bridesmaids if she had a backup plan, since all the group photos were scheduled for OUTSIDE. (I didn’t want to make the bride nervous.) They said no. Then Emily came in, and with a smile on her face, she said, “It’s going to stop raining when the ceremony is over.”

We got to the church, and it was still pouring, the skies were dark. I thought it would never let up. But as Emily + Lucas said their vows, he kissed his bride, and they made their way down the aisle, it did just that. The rain stopped, and the sun was shining. I can’t tell you how glad I was that Emily was right!

And I have to tell you, the thing that sticks out in my mind from this day is the smile that never left Emily’s face, and the wild + crazy wedding party! That group definitely knows how to have fun, and they had me laughing the ENTIRE day. I guess that’s why I’m posting what is probably one of the biggest posts EVER on the blog.

Thanks to Emily + Lucas for having me photograph the most important day of their lives. I had a blast, and thanks for being so laid back + fun. Can’t wait to show you post #2. Enjoy Mexico!

A Fantastic visit

Dan’s parents came in from NYC last Thursday for a short visit. We had such a fun time catching up with John and Heleena, and I think Aidan warmed up to them pretty quickly. With them, they brought a fabulous train set from Aunt Rachel (THANK YOU!!!!). He loves it more than just about anything – except maybe Barney (with whom he is utterly obsessed). We went out to breakfast, did a super mini photo shoot, toured the Super Wal-Mart, watched/listened to many, many games (hockey + football). The Welch boys are fans of every D.C. team there is. I’m only waiting for Aidan to begin his Redskins love affair, too. Although, I must stress that our child will be a Cardinals fan + a Mizzou Tigers fan – no matter how awful they are. Regardless, our little 21-month-old son can say “touchdown” and throw his arms in the air like the refs. Then he laughs hysterically when “Da da” claps for him. I’m so outnumbered.

John + Heleena were also brave enough to watch the little man by themselves for nearly an entire day while Dan + I were shooting a wedding. They’re probably still recovering because Aidan has a crazy amount of energy. Everybody claims he is the most energetic child they’ve ever met. Luckily I don’t know any better. I just know him. And he does keep everyone on their toes. Anyway, I think it was a good bonding experience for all of them.

Miss Kaitlyn: Sneek Peek

With her lustrous, dark hair and enormous blue eyes, Kaitlyn was a photographer’s dream. I had the enormous pleasure of photographing Kaitlyn, who is 4 months old, on Saturday at her home. I had such a fun time – who can resist such little hands and feet and sweet smells of everything baby? Not me. That’s for sure. After some portraits, we did a mini-lifestyle portraiture with her parents and 2 brothers. It was so sweet to see how her brothers interacted with her. Thanks to Kaitlyn + her amazing family for inviting me into their home! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

Busy Bees

That’s what Mr. Aidan and I were this weekend. Between doing laundry (yup, still getting caught up on all the boxes full of clothes that were sitting for 6 months. We, um, have a lot of clothes. And I do mean WE.), making our weekly trip to Wal-Mart (We go there so often that Aidan literally can read the word Wal-Mart. Although it kind of sounds like Ma Ma, but you get the idea…) and other household things while Dan was working, we made a trip to Illinois for my friend Ashley’s housewarming party and went to the zoo! Poor Aidan didn’t get much of a nap in either day, so I’m really hoping he makes up for it tomorrow so I can get a little bit of work done.

Well, plans have changed for me, and I am remaining a full-time photographer/stay-at-home mom. And Aidan will just have to settle for his mommy instead of a new school…Without getting into crummy details, let’s just say the economy is horrible, and the position no longer exists. End of story. On to new things. Hopefully more shooting! I’m in the works to schedule mini-holiday sessions. Stay tuned.

I can’t remember if I already posted about it, but my camera came back! Oh how I missed it. Welcome back baby. Aidan was actually quite cooperative this weekend while I tested it out, so I have many to show! Here’s one of my favorites from the housewarming party we went to on Saturday. Congrats again Ashely! We’re so happy for you!

Without further ado, here he is. Mr. Aidan John Welch. Aaaah. Eye contact AND a smile. What did I do to deserve that? Maybe he felt sorry for me because I turned 30 Friday.

I had a session with the adorable 1-year-old, Owen tonight. He is sooo cute, with his big blue eyes and his wispy brown hair and a smile that is just to-die-for. Such the cutie patootie. I’ve known his mom for about 8 years. We met in college while living in the dorms. Aaaah the good old days.

Here’s a little sneak preview for his mom and dad. I had a great time catching up, you guys!

His mom would ask him how old he was, and he would hold up his one little finger – too cute!

I know, it’s only taken me a million years to get these up. We ended up doing her session on 2 days because of rain, but I’m not sure who had more fun – me or Hailey. She was up for anything, and she partied like a rockstar during the entire shoot. Thanks Hailey! (I may have to do a second post of images from her 2 sessions just because I loved sooo many of them.)

I Shoot People Tour

No, not with a gun, with a camera. The I Shoot People Tour is a wedding photography seminar that I attended with my friend/photography Ashley (you can visit her blog here). I learned a lot from JB and DeEtte, owners of Sallee Photography. If you’re a wedding photographer, you should definitely check them out.

Anyway, before the seminar, Ashley and I took photos of each other. Here she is. (Hope she doesn’t kill me, but I think she looks so cute in this pic!) I’ll be posting mine soon, too.
